Where's The Man?

By David J. Stewart

"And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?" (John 8:3-10).

The scribes and Pharisees, i.e., the Jewish religious leaders, had caught a woman in the “very act” of adultery. They brought her before Jesus and demanded to know what should be done to her. Jesus, knowing the self-righteous evil in their hearts, stooped down to the ground and wrote something. Whatever Jesus wrote on the ground, it greatly convicted the scribes and Pharisees. In fact, they were so ashamed that they departed, one-by-one, until they were all gone. I think I know what Jesus wrote on the ground; but it is only my personal opinion, so please understand that.

I think Jesus wrote... “WHERE'S THE MAN?”

The scribes and Pharisees claimed that they had caught the woman in the VERY ACT of committing adultery. Ok, then why didn't they bring the man? Where's the man caught in the VERY ACT? Why did the scribes and Pharisees only judge the woman, and want her to be stoned; but the adulterous man was released and let go? Those hypocrites condemned that woman; but not the man. I believe Jesus addressed their hypocrisy when He wrote on the ground, and they couldn't argue with His Words...

“WHERE'S THE MAN?”

We see this same hypocrisy in society today. A Rock 'N' Roll singer brags publicly about having fornicated with thousands of women, and no one says anything negative; BUT just let a preacher mess up even once and see what happens...all the hordes of Hell attack him for the rest of his life. If the Scribes and Pharisees had been honest and just, they would have brought BOTH parties involved, and not just one. When unsaved heathens attack fallen preachers and condemn them, I ask...Where's the adulterous pigs of Hollywood, the whores of Las Vegas, and the homosexuals from San Francisco?

“WHERE'S THE MAN?”

People have a carnal tendency to automatically justify their friends, and condemn their enemies. This is wrong. There is a popular saying that goes... “We can do no wrong in the eyes of our friends; and no right in the eyes of our enemies.” Put in spiritual terms...“To him that believeth, no explanation is necessary; to him that believeth not, no explanation is possible.” A Christian will always be ridiculed, mocked, laughed at, and criticized by wicked sinners. Paul asked for the prayers of the Thessalonica believers... “that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith” (2nd Thessalonians 3:2).

Even our judicial system, which you'd think would be “just” since they specialize in law, is extremely corrupt and controlled by greedy evil men. The divorce racket in America is now a dishonest $50,000,000,000 industry. While petty-theft criminals were sentenced to 50-years in a California prison for stealing some golf-clubs and video-tapes, the big-time criminals behind the banking bailout scam who stole billions never spent a day in prison. There is NO justice in America! We see the petty-theft criminals being brought to trial and punished, but where's the corporate criminals? Hypocrites!

“WHERE'S THE MAN?”

The internet has become a devil's playground. The very name “Satan” means “the accuser.” Revelation 12:10, “And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.” You're never more like Satan than when you accuse others, pointing a finger of condemnation toward them, while overlooking your own sins. Romans 2:1, “Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.” That's why I continually preach the Biblical message, “WE HAVE SINNED,” because I am just as sinful as the worst sinner in God's eyes, and so are you (James 2:10). We all need redemption in Christ Jesus.

I do not know what Jesus wrote on the ground, but I am confident that He inquired as to where the man was. Why did the scribes and Pharisees only bring the adulterous woman who was caught in the “very act” of adultery? Where was the man?
